However, there are many threats that can happen in this region. In any emergency, always follow instructions given to you by your local police, fire, health department or emergency management agency. Theywill tell you to do one of three things:

  1. Evacuate means to leave a building or area you are in immediately and to find safe shelter
  2. Shelter in Place All people and pets should stay inside where you are which could be at home, work or school. If you are outside you should seek shelter in a nearby building.
  3. Respond to a Public Health Threat A public health emergency is a natural or man-made disaster that could make many people sick or even die. Examples; are pandemic flu outbreaks or anthrax. Authorities could ask you to practice social distancing, or get medications from a Point of Dispensing.
